Photo Editing Time Calculator — Plan Your Workflow

Estimate total editing hours and delivery timeline based on your image count, culling rate, editing complexity and experience level.

How We Calculate This

This calculator applies a culling rate to your total images, then estimates editing time per image based on complexity and experience.

The formula

Images to edit = Total images × (1 − Culling rate)

Total hours = Images to edit × Minutes per image ÷ 60

Assumed editing times

The per-image times and experience multipliers below are industry-average estimates, not hard data — your own rate will vary with your hardware, presets and the shoot itself:

  • Basic (exposure, crop, white balance): ~2 min/image
  • Standard (+ retouching, colour grading): ~5 min/image
  • Advanced (+ compositing, heavy retouching): ~15 min/image
  • Beginner editor: ×1.8  •  Intermediate: ×1.0  •  Experienced: ×0.7

These figures align with published editing-time guides (e.g. Imagen, Imagely and Fstoppers), which put a standard colour-grade plus basic retouch at roughly 5 minutes per photo and advanced compositing at 15–30+ minutes.
